House numbers in parish records.

Post autor: bkaminski »

On the parish records, when it states that someone was from house number ___, can one find out where or if that house exists today? Are there maps or plots of the houses in certain villages? Is there any significance to the house number or were they numbered as they were built?
Thank you.

Thank you Aneta for the offer to try to help. At this time the copies of the records are too poor to scan, I will try to get better copies and send them later.
However, the records I have from the Janowka parish that state house numbers are as follows:
My great great grandmother, Agnieszka Harasim daughter of Michal or Mateusz Harasim and Maryanna Kotarska born 20 April 1810 in Korytki pod Numerem Czwartym.

A son to my great great grandfather Wawrzyniec Kaminski and his first wife Maryanna Morgownikow , Andrzey Franciszek on 25 September 1819 in Janowka pod Numerem Trzydzeistym.

Ancestors to my relatives, Stanislaw Jan Harasim son of Grzegorz Harasim and Ewa Piekarska born March 1819 in Wronowo pod Numerem Dwanastym and the girl who would become his wife, Teofila Maryanna Cuper daughter of Jakob Cuper and Rozalia Poulakow born November 1819 in Wysokie pod Numerem Pierwnasym.

Another relative I am trying to place, Kazimierz Marcin Kaminski son of Woyciech Kaminski and Josefata Kotarska born 29 January 1820 in Pruska Wielka pod Numerem Pietnastym. I think this may be my great grandmother, Jozefa Blyszczek Kaminska's family, she was the daughter of Andrzey Blyszczek and Maryanna Kaminska of Pruska Wielka and became the second wife of my great grandfather Jozef Kaminski the son of Wawrzyniec Kaminski and his second wife Agnieszka Harasim of Janowka. I have not yet found Jozef or Jozefa's birth records, too many marriages and too many children

I guess after 1830 they stopped recording the house number because the record I have of Wawrzyniec Kaminski and Agnieszka Harasim's first daughter Maryanna born 19 March 1831 only states Janowka.

I would greatly appreciate any help with my family research or if anyone knows of any present day family of my ancestors in these villages.

Thank you very much.
Barry

Thank you for your additional details about your ancestors.

Well, I don’t think that the number of the house has any connection with the house will be available. During the centuries house numeration can be changed.
Unfortunately, I have not found detailed maps of the which area, you interested in.
I think that it is proper to be turn for advice to the Public Archive in Białystok (e-mail: sekretariat_ap@bialystok.ap.gov.pl ). Probably, they have old plans of your villages and other useful information for you.

Perhaps, it’s proper to write also to the National Center of Historical Monument Studies and Documentation (e-mail: info@kobidz.en ) in Białystok - http://www.kobidz.pl/app/site.php5/Show/21.html

Does anybody have any other ideas ?

Again, Thank you Aneta. :D I will try your suggestions and let you know what I learn.

As you said after two centuries the houses, if they still exist, will have been renumbered. Even in a record from 1815 for another son of Wawrzyniec Kaminski, Michal Franciszek, the house number is different from 1819 (30 vs. 33). Maybe an error by the priest or maybe a renumbering. Finding a village plan from the correct time frame is the key, unless a family member is still living in the village and knows the history.
