Szamier-Chamier origins

I've traced the Szamier line back several generations on this site. Before 1810, it seems they used Chamier briefly. But there are no records of any variation before then. Tomasz had 20 children, and I found his father Jakub, but no record before Jakub Szamier's marriage in 1804. Does anyone know how they spelled Szamier/Chamier before 1800? Thanks

I do believe that the right surname and its spelling is more likely to be CHAMIER (pronounced as Hamier). In Polish "CH" sounds only as "H" and "SZ" as "SH". Chamier is very common in the North region of Poland, especially in Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodeships.

Thanks for the information. I still have no leads before 1800 on how they spelled Chamier or Szamier. They seem to pop up in early 1800's under Chamier, but only a few listings. Then it switches to Szamier, but they seem to disappear towards the late 1800's. I know Tomasz had 20 children from 1829-1863, so I find it hard to believe that the line would die out that quickly. The only spelling variations I've found are Szemerski and Szamijer. In the US, they said their family name was Schamier on most documents.
