My Grandmother Lena Sliwinska was born in Nowa Huta, near Brody, where her mother Sokolowska was born. Lena"s father was born in Jankowce, on the Seret River near Tarnopol. My grandmother"s immigration record said that she was Ruthenian(Russniak) and that she was Greek Catholic.
My Great Uncles (CYCAK)were born in Walawa, near Przemysl. The registry office has their Roman Catholic birth certificates, but these are in Greek Catholic parish register books.
Could someone explain the reason for these occurrences?
Thank you!
Ruthenian/Russniak/Rusyn/Rusin

Tym, I assume that you were researching LDS Church microfilms for Galawa. LDS Church has microfilms from Galawa in Bukowina but none from Walawa near Przemyśl.
Check all seven films by numbers and you probably will find some metrical books from Walawa of your interest in at least one of them. It happens very often that in microfilms of a given parish, operators who were microfilming somewhere in Poland or Ukraine, would include books from another parish starting with the same letter or with the same name.
Walawa n. Przemyśl belonged at the end of nineteen c. to Wyszatyce Roman - Catholic parish. No microfilm could be found in LDS Church for Wyszatyce.
I hope it will help
