1772-3 West Prussian Land Record Site

My ancestor Mathias Katka is listed in the 1772-3 West Prussian Land Record Site. The village is Wyssocka and the government office is Ossieck.

Where would I find the church records for this village. Any help would be appreciated.

I guess it's Wysoka in Wyrzysk district.

Hello Bartek_M,

Thank you for your reply and view. I have sent for the early records for Wyrzwsk ( Wirsitz ) starting 1637 for b m d from my local LDS Family History Centre. Someone else suggested I might try Wysoka ( Starogard Gdanski ) but no early records seem to exist only civil records 1874-82.

Wyrzysk is in your case just a district capital, not the seat of parish for Wysoka town:

- therefore it's not the right goal for you.

I'd rather suggest to order the early Wysoka films listed above (at first: 840110, 840111).

Someone else suggested I might try Wysoka ( Starogard Gdanski )

And he might be right, Ma'am! :)

wasn't a parish itself.

According to http://www.westpreussen.de/ortsverzeich ... hp?ID=6926, the village belonged to Bobowo (Bobau) Catholic parish, so please look for church records of Bobowo in the LDS catalog.

You may also contact Mrs. Rachel Schmidt (e-mail: rachel (at) grhs (dot) org) to obtain the complete 1772-1773 scan for Katka, just to make sure it's the right man in the right place.

By the way, how do you know Matheus Katka is your ancestor?

Dear Bartek,
Thank you for your time and recomendations to help me, I have now ordered 840110 and 840111 for marriages.
I have checked Osiek Starogard Gdanski and found births started 1836-1883. I just didn't know early records were in Bobowo. I have sorted out film 162336 for Bobowo early births 1670-1832 to make a start.
I do not know for certain this Mathias Katke is my ancestor. However this is the name of my Great Grandfather. My Great Great Grandfather was named Bogumil and his father, my Great Great Great Grandfather was also named Mathias.
They lived in / around the Tuchola/Kielpin/Jelenz and Obrowo areas. I don't know which exact village/town they originated from, hence I must check these early records for proof.
There are 3 Kathke families I am in contact with, although we can't make any connections with being related yet. During 2008 we visited the area with our Polish guide and actually found relatives of mine living in Kesowo. We also know another cousin lives in Gdansk.
My grandmothers family (Czerwinski / Duszynska ) are all from Lipa, Ludomy and Ryczywol.

Dear Bartek,

I see from the Pomeranian Genealogical Association site that Bobowo, Bobowo Usc ? and Bobowo Filia ? have been indexed for Births Marriages and Deaths. The dates I needed have been covered., but no Kathke's or Katka's. This saved me sending for the films.

I am still waiting for the other 2 Wysoka films to arrive.
