Searching for records for Fedorowicz and Zabrowska

Post autor: jbaltrym »

Hello. I am new to this forum and unfortunately do not speak Polish but I am hoping someone who reads English can help me.

I am searching for Polish records, family & ancestors of my Grandfather: Boleslaw Fedorowicz/Federovich born 26 May 1886. His father was Tomasz Fedorowicz his mother Karolina Zebrowska/Zhebrovskaya. An old photograph I have of his parents states “math teacher and blacksmith”. According to a translation of his birth certificate it appears he was born in Grodek, Mazowiecke County, Kuczyn (Parish), Klukowa gmina, Lomza Governorate. Some of the records I have only state he was born in Lomza or Lormza. He came to the US in 1906 thru Ellis Island and the ship Manifest says he came from "Taporoic or Zaporoic, Russia" which I cannot locate or confirm. He settled in Detroit Michigan USA where he remained until his death in 1959.

Boleslaw also had an older sister, Stanislawa Fedorowicz, born in Poland in 1884; She married Boleslaw Henry Redgate (an Englishman who was working at the British Consulate in Warsaw). They came to the US in 1906 with their 2 children, Barbara and Anton. The Ship manifest states she came from Kaninskoj, Russia and went to Schenecdaty, New York. Boleslaw Redgate and Stanislawa (Sadie or Stasha) Redgate eventually had 2 more children in the US: Julia and Raymond and they all settled in East Orange, New Jersey where they remained. They have all passed away and I cannot locate any further information for them.

I believe, but cannot confirm, that Boleslaw Fedorowicz also had a brother Vincenty Fedorowicz but I have no information on him at all. I am not sure he ever left Poland/Russia.

Any information or assistance in locating records would be most sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

Searching for records for Fedorowicz and Zabrowska

Dear jbaltrym,

The records for the Kuczyn Parish ARE avaliable online and are not indexed yet.
In the link below you will find the info what is avaliable for this Parish in The State Archive in Białystok branch Łomża.
http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/pradzi ... rch=search

For birth it's 1890-1908 only, so you can only check for younger sibilings.

THIS IS NOT VALID [You can wait for publication online or write to the archive to do some reasearch / get copies.
http://www.bialystok.ap.gov.pl/?uslugi,17

Looks like the page is only in Polish. :-(
The services are not very expensive (copy between equivalent 1 and 3 USD, search is more expensive 10-20 usd per hour) but it can take time. ]

Older books for Kuczyn most probably exist and are kept at the Parish but the access is very very very difficult.

But maybe you can find info in other Parishes too.

But there is some info on the Redgate family avaliable online. Below pls find the indexed persons.

http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/72/1216/0/-/ ... /#tabSkany

Look at this one
1896 M 87 Piotr Paweł Redgate Tekla Zmysłowska Warszawa Przemienienie Pańskie Miejscowość: W-wa Przemienienie Pańskie
Indeks dodał Barbara_Kubcka
http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/72/1216/0/-/ ... /#tabSkany
Here a certain Henry Redgate mechanic is signed as a witness.
I guess they are all family - TBC of course.

Ship manifests show sometimes very inaccurate names of places, so solving the puzzle may be difficult.

regards
piotr

PS
Its not a stupid idea to put your name below your post. ;-)

EDIT
I was mistaken the Kuczyn is avaliable in metryki.
See link below in post of Włodek.

Searching for records for Fedorowicz and Zabrowska

Post autor: jbaltrym »

Well I must say a very heartfelt Thank You to both Piotr and Bez. Although I have much work to do at least I know there are some great, helpful people on this Forum!

Piotr, yes, very interesting that you found another Redgate. Now just adding another piece to this massive puzzle. Also know that the information on those Ship Manifests is mostly inaccurate but I guess I have to start somewhere. The search feature on this website is rather unique. I am finding what appear to be other relatives but the data is very limited. I will consider writing to Bialystok as soon as I can get all my facts in order.

As for the link you provided at http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/72/1216/0/-/ ... /#tabSkany that's pretty amazing. Only wish I could read Polish. But I trust your translation!

I have a number of other relatives that came from Poland and I will be posting separate messages on this forum in my search for their records and possible ancestors. Trying to keep all this information organized is a daunting task. Don't know what I'd do without a couple of great genelogical sites I use here in the states: ancestry.com and familysearch.org.

I'll keep searching and hoping...
Dziękuję!

Dear JanBee,
I wish you good luck.
Just a small correction. The records for the Polish Kingdom are in Russian for the period 1868-1915. ;-)
There are some very good translators here who can probably help you with some of the records. They can eg exctract names, dates and places.
Many people here don't speak or read Russian too. ;-) It's though but its just a matter of exercise.
I suggest using this as a starting point

Thank you again Piotr. I had my Grandfather Fedorowicz' Birth Certificate translated from Russian. That's the only way I could know that he was born in Grodek.

kinds regards to you also.
