Help? Tarnow/Skrzyszów: Armatys,Sempek,Sctlak,Jarosz

Post autor: learmatis »

Hello! I'm so sorry this is in English.

In a week I will visit Tarnow/Skrzyszow and I would like to research my family, who lived in these cities before immigrating to the U.S. in the 1800s. I have a few questions:

*Is there a way to see where I might find gravesites? I have specific names.
*Is there a way to find other genealogists interested in these names?
*Are there genealogist/translators I might be able to request to help me while in the area?

Thank you! Any advice is very much appreciated.

My full list of names of ancestors in this region:

Armatys/Armatis
Boruch
Jarosz
Zurowski
Sctlak
Bernal
Barnas
Garuszka
Sempek

A pretty tall order, given that you are leaving in a week. There seems to be a St. Stanislaw church in Skrzyszow. If they still have the old church records you might try there, but this being summer and all, it might be tough.

Good luck!

Widziałem w internecie spis miejscowości z diecezji tarnowskiej.
Był tam Skrzyszów - zindeksowanych 3258 aktów urodzeń w okresie 1786-1911.

We don't have as good searching engine as Billiongraves of Findagrave, but you cant try:

http://www.polskie-cmentarze.com/tarnow ... hp?id=form

Some of the Tarnów graves are listed here: http://www.starycmentarz.pl/spis.html

But you have to remember, that before 18th century people in Tarnów were buried near the cathedral church in Tarnów or in its catacumbs.

There is a parish cementary in Skrzyszów: it is opened for visitors.

I can't find information about the Skrzyszów cementary office, but you can try in the parish office. It's working during the summertime, too. Here are the opening hours: everyday 7.30-9.00 A.M., wednesdays and saturdays 5.00-6.00 P. M.

There is an information, that many visitors in Skrzyszów are foreigners, for the church is very interesting, so there should be not so much problems with english-speaking guests, you can try to make an appointment.

Yes, it's true. I've done some research on my own, and have some original parish marriage papers for my great-great grandparents in Skrzyszow, but nothing else, and I'm not sure where those papers came from. I just found this message board.

Thank you very much for this information! I didn't know people were buried beneath the church.

Unfortunately, I don't yet see anyone in polskie-cmentarze.com.

As I have said, the data on the website may be incomplete. You can also try on another cementary in Tarnów: http://www.polskie-cmentarze.pl/Spis-cm ... now/Tarnow
