Looking for help - Kozy (Biała)

Post autor: evetka »

Hello,

I would like to ask someone from here to help. I have found out that some of my ancestors (my grandmother´s grandmother etc.) were born in village/town named Kozy in Biala. I know their dates of birth but I have absolutely no idea where to find the records. They are probably not scanned yet, are they?

So my question is - who am I supposed to contact so I could get these records? What archive? Who? And is there a possibility to pay for this service online and then get the scanned record?

I also have no problem to pay to someone from here who is going to do some research for himself in the Biala-archives and is willing to find the records for me:-)

I would be very happy for any suggestions, answers etc.

Thank you very much and have a nice day!
Sofeicz

Hello, below are the names and the dates:

1. Marie Folta born 5.8.1890 probably in Kozy, Biala (mother: Marie Anna Folta, father: unknown)

2. Marie Anna Folta born 15.7.1868 in Kozy, Biala (mother: Susanna Folta, 1840; father: unknown)

3. Susanna Folta born in 1840 in Kozy, Biala (father: Wincent Folta, mother: Salome from the Martin Banet family)

4. Wincent Folta (Susanna´s father; dates and other information unknown)

5. Salome (Susanna´s mother; from the family of Martin Banet; dates and other information unknown)

You know how it is with the dates, they are not right sometimes.. It is of course possible that Susanna had more children (not only Marie Anna) and also her parents had more children (not only Susanna), but I do not know anything about them and their life in Kozy, unfortunately. It would be great to have the scans of the birth of Marie, Marie Anna, Susanna etc. so I could probably get more information about them :-)

Thank you:-)
Pozdrawiam
Iveta

Do you now what religion were your ancestors?
In the collection of the Koza Roman Catholic parish are records from 1658 (date of local church recovery from Calvinist).

PS. At present days in Koza live many persons named FOŁTA/FOŁTYN. Probably they are from the same familly.

They were ROMAN CATHOLICS. And the records for Kozy are available online somewhere? I have searched for them them but did not find them anywhere. And "Kozy" is the same as "Koza"? The village I am looking for is a located in województwo śląskie, powiat bielski.

Kozy is plural Koza is singular for goat. ;-)

The village name is Kozy.
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kozy

The link by Sofeicz is right as he looked for Kozy.

I do not see the books online. In fact I do not see the books for the Parish in state archives at all.
At the time the village was in Galicja so Austria-Hungary. And in Galicja there was no Civil Registration as far as I know for traditional religions.

I guess it became part of Województwo Ślaskie 1951.

They have a Civil Registration Office there
http://bip.kozy.pl/BIP.aspx?Sel=45080&ident=471
They should know something about the old books but I guess the old books are at the Parish.

It looks like a local guy could be required in this case.
pozdrawiam
Piotr

I know i know, but I thought that there is one village named Kozy and other village named Koza in Poland:-) Thank to both of you for all the links. So I should contact the Civil Registration Office to get me information about the books? I hope that someone will answer.

It would be great if someone from the village or its surroundings could find out something there, because I have no chance to get to Kozy (or where tho books will be present) in person. Of course, money included.
Pozdrawiam

I am very thankful to everybody here who is trying and willing to help me to find the records. I appreciate it so much! I have contacted the Civil Registration Office (link by pjotr_nojzewski), so I have to wait now until (if) someone answer. If they give me new info, I will post it here.

Yes, before I started to search the records for Kozy, I have read some articles about the Kozy village. It is pretty big village - according to the amount of people it would definitely be a town in my country.
Pozdrawiam

Kozy is a dwarf comparing to the biggest polish village ever - Bałuty (now is district of Łódż). Over 100.000 citizens :)

Hello, I would like to ask if you did have time to call the office? Because I tried to contact them two weaks ago (by e-mail) and they have already sent me this answer - could someone please explain it to me (the bold part)? is there any possibility to get the records (at least from 1890) just by e-mail or is it needed to be there in present? I have sent them the names, the dates and this is their answer. Thank you:-)

Pozdrawiam

So, after finding those records, you have to come to our office to obtain the copy (if you are person authorized, for example records concerns to yours ancestors).

They have the duplicates of the parish records from 1890 to 1945.
It follows that only Marie Folta born 5.8.1890 is in this range.

No I didn't call them as you wrote you send them the mail.

In fact what they wrote you is in fact NOT true in some points.

True is that they are not obliged to do genealogical research but they can do reasonable effort to help you.
In practice it depends a bit on the people and on the situation (esp if the books are indexed and maybe in a computer system).

But and as you have the birth date they are obliged to check it and send the excerpt! Unfortunately they can expect an official request before (you know with sign and return address in Poland) and a payment.

You have to proof that you are authorized if the person was born less then 100 years ago or died/married less then 80 years ago. Some USC are may be not fully aware as the regulations changed this year.

And you can ask them for a photocopy/scan for non formal use and not a official excerpt.
pozdrawiam
Piotr

Thank you, your answer was really helpful!

Unfortunately, the lady at the office told me that in their books is no person with the suname FOLTA, so I really have no idea what to do now. In many of our records is written that she was born in Kozy, Biala, but as it seems it is not right or I do not how to explain it... It seems like a little mystery to me.
Pozdrawiam
