Looking for Unknown Grandfather

Post autor: Krysia18 »

My father, Bronislaw Alfred Berszoner (b 7/1920, Rokcie/Lodz, Poland) was born out-of-wedlock to Pauline/Paulina Beschorner/Berszoner. I am looking for my father's biological father.

Can someone assist me in locating a birth or church records for my father? What was the protocol in Poland in the 1920s when a woman gave birth without being married?

Thanks
Krysia

Krysia, what do you mean by protocol? Child's birth was recorded normally in the books, but name of father was treated as unknown.

Was your father baptised in catholic church or lutheran? Rokicie today is a district of Łódź city, but it was separate village in XIXth century. See the map with location of Rokicie and the oldest catholic parish churches in Łódź: https://www.google.pl/maps/dir/Rokicie, ... 777473!3e0

If your father was baptised in lutheran church, it should take place in Pabianice. See info on Rokicie in Geographical Dictionary of Kingdom of Poland and other Slavic Countries: http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_IX/701

Thanks for your reply Daniel. What I meant by protocol was were unwed mothers allowed to baptize their children or only civil records were made? Pauline was an Evangelic-Lutheran, but I'm not sure if my father was baptized.

Really would like to find out who his biological father was. Supposedly his birth was the product of an extra-marital affair (employee-employer). My grandmother and my father both lived in Lodz, Poland before WWII.

I will take a look at the links you provided.

Thanks,
Krysia

Krysia,

The links in post about contain 1) scans of the lutheran parish in Łódź, but births only to 1914, so they do not cover period, you are interested in. 2) The second link contains information, you can find in Geneteka, but also up to 1913. In my opinion, the best way, would be to contact both lutheran parishes, in Łódź and in Pabianice (according to information from Geographical Dictrionary of Kingdom of Poland...), where Rokicie belonged in XIXth century (it could change in XXth century) to ask about records from after 1920. Łódź: kancelaria@lodz.luteranie.pl (https://lodz.luteranie.pl/kontakt/); Pabianice: (http://www.pabianicki.net.pl/kontakt.htm). Unwed mothers were allowed to baptize their children. One of my great grandmothers was baptised in exactly such a situation.

I looked over the geneteka links that you provided above. The first link I don't know what to do with it, I don't read Polish.

The one with Beschorner, the majority of the names are not familiar to me. The only ones that are familiar are Jozef Beschorner and Ida Gruen (Jozef should have been Jr.). They are my 2nd great uncle and his wife.

Hi Krysia,

finding your biological grandfather would only be possible if he had some other issue who did a DNA test ... and you did one too.

Geneteka is only the information about the records anyone transcripted into xls files from original records and published it online. At the end of each row, there is an "A" symbol. If you click it, you will see the contact to the people, who added the information about the record to the database. You can write to this people, and possibly receive scan of the record or additional info.

I did a DNA test and found out that I have a great aunt in Germany. We have connected, however, we cannot determine how we are connected! We believe it is on my father's side, could possibly be my father's unknown biological father.

I will contact the parishes mentioned above to see if they have any information on my father.

Update on my DNA test. Thru testing, I found out I have a Great Aunt living in Germany. We have connected, trying to find out where we are related. Nothing definite at the moment. One theory is my Great Aunt's grandfather had a son before marrying into this family. The son and father never met. They have the name of this man, however, not the woman....possibly my grandmother. Both families are doing research, sharing pictures to see where we are related, but without the actual people in the story (main characters not living), it's difficult. We are determine to continue searching until we have an answer!

Great Aunt -- can someone explain the generational connection?

Thanks
