Looking for Wegner Family

My grandmother, Pauline/Paulina Beschorner/Berszoner married Otto Wegner in Germany in 1952-1953. Otto Wegner lived in Lodz, Poland before leaving for Germany.

I have found Otto's parents and siblings on this website, but am looking to see whether he was married in Poland. Can someone provide guidance as to how I may locate marriage or residency records for Otto Wegner?

Hi Krysia,
would you like to find out whether your grandfather Otto Wegner had been married in Poland BEFORE he married your grandmother? Or if the marriage to Pauline Beschorner took place in Poland and not in Germany?

In order to find a record in Germany you would actually have to be aware of the town where the event took place. There is no central register.

Concerning Poland, maybe someone else can give some advice. I can only say that when I was looking for my Polish grandfather's birth certificate from 1920 in Poland, I only needed to contact any city hall, send them an official request, pay the fees and I would receive what I was looking for.

Thanks for responding. I am looking for information on whether Otto Wegner was married in Poland before his marriage to my grandmother in Germany. I have a copy of their German marriage certificate. Would like to know if he was married and had children.

Hi Krysia,

the German marriage certificate should tell you whether Otto Wegner was divorced or a widower or never married before.

Of course he may not have told the truth.

Depending on when exactly he was supposed to be married in Poland, check out archives online or send an official request to e.g. Łódź, fill in all the data you have about him and pay the fees if they find something in the central register.

I looked over the marriage certificate, didn't say anything about whether he (or my grandmother) were previously married. I've checked geneteka for Wegner family and found his parents and siblings. Nothing about a previous marriage.

If it was the same Otto Wegner, he was married to Jadwiga, they had a son - Ernest. Ernest was my grandmother's second husband. He was born in 1919

My Otto Wegner was born January 1892, Lodz, Poland, his parents were Aleksander and Ida Wilde. Do this information should familiar to you?

Unfortunately, it's not the same Otto. My Otto was born in 1901. Father - Edward, mother - Marianna.
