My Polish ancestor is Jozef Sawicki son of Jozef Sawicki (Joseph Savisky) and Zofia Baranowska (Sophie Baranoska), he was taken prisoner of war by the French army in 1796. He says he was born around 1777 in "Wauwek" : may be LWOWEK !?
When he got married in France, two other Polish prisoners said they knew him and that he was not already married in Poland. These two soldiers would come from the same commune of "Wauwek", the third from the city of Kazanow (Kazanouffe) department of "Wauwek".
The 2 witnesses:
Kacper Amanowicz (Gaspard Almanovich) born circa 1774. He is the son of Walenty Amanowicz (Valentin Amanovis) and Katarzyna Yakoslewski !? (Catherine Yakouslesky) and
Michal Majewski (Michel Magesky, Domagesky) born around 1773. He is the son of Jan Majesky (Jean Magesky) and Maria Kocinski (Marie Cosinski).
In the same French town of Cosne, there were other Polish prisoners: Joseph Govasky (Jozep Kowacki) Jean Martiniuk (Jan Martyniuk). There was also a Hungarian prisoner incorporated into the Austrian army, in the Wurmser company. But he could be incorporated in the prussian army too.
The French armies had taken 30,000 prisoners during the Italian war, most of them Poles, recruited in Galicia.
The city of "Wauwek" is not on any map. May be Lwowek or Wroclawek !? I am at an impasse.
If anyone had the parents of one of the three in their ancestors, please contact me by personal message.

The town Kazanów and the surname Amanowicz indicate the location of this town Wauwek (whatever it is) in Mazovia near Zwoleń.
Amanowicz appears in crowds only in this parish. There is Kacper, but different parents, there is Walenty and his wife Katarzyna Brożek.
There are also many Majewskis in this parish, but I have not met Michał, the son of Jan and Maria Kosińska. Majewskis are my family and I know all their documents.

Niekoniecznie musieli go znać sprzed służby. To, że świadkowie z okolicy X nie oznacza że Sawicki " z Wałwka" z tej samej okolicy X.

I made the assumption, but as Włodzimierz said, it may be wrong assumption. Especially, that I cannot find marriage/death certificate of neither Józef or Zofia...
Pozdrawiam, Irek
