Tarnopol

Hello everyone! I’m trying to gather more information about my grandparents, one of them is from Tarnopol and one of them is from Poznan (Or konin?). This information will later help me gather documents useful to obtain my polish citizenship.
The thing is.. I know more information about my great grandparent from Tarnopol, I wanna know what’s your advice on this? Is Tarnopol still part of Poland? I searched on google maps and it shows that Tarnopol is in Poland but I’ve been told it isn’t. Would it be a dead end to try to find more information of him?
