Please help: Woiska 1740s - Brick wall on Joseph Banke

Post autor: Baingo »

Ciao fab genealodzy.pl forum heroes

Please help me :)

Truly, thank you SO much for your stellar site & search functionality which has hugely helped me on my www.ancestry.co.uk family tree (I have linked to your results many times). Through your fab site, I have found many descent relatives and also with the help of stellar and really lovely person in the forum (axeeee) who helped me.

But, I have hit a brick wall everywhere, for:

Joseph Banke (Abt 1747 - Before 1795) of Woiska ?

Since my last post Apr 04, 2022 (but from start of lockdown on the Baingo quest) I have been trying to trace Joseph Banke

https://www.sushi-rider.com/baingo-sile ... woiska.jpg

who is my Baingo / Banke ancestor of my grandfather Erwin Baingo

https://www.sushi-rider.com/baingo-sile ... in-baingo/

On Joseph Banke's son's Carl Banka (Senior) (Abt 1771, Woiska - 1848, Wüstenhammer) ) marriage certificate to Franciska Ziaja dated 19 Feb 1795 in Wesola, Joseph Banke / Banka was "of" Woiska

Mega please can some one help? I would even consider a reasonable fee for this.

Best wishes

A London, Silesia Banke / Baingo descendant :)

ps forgive me i will also add another forum thread as I am intrigued why my Grandfather surname was changed from Banke tp Baingo[/url]

Krystyna rocks

Forgive me - hugest hug to you Krystyna for responding so swiftly and later than London time (it's past midnight for you :)

I have indeed created a forum thread there for my request but to no success :( To everyone's respect - i am chasing someone in the 1700s which records might not be available on line :( It's rubbish that I'm not fit enough to go yet to Wojska to see if I could find documents. I have tried emailing the churches round Wojska but no replies :(

Sounds bizarre but not only is it a quest for me but is more driven for my Mummy (in heaven). Clearing our the family home - I found documents that she was writing letters to find out (but at time when we didn't have these amazing online research facilities, such as here)

truly thank you, you lovely genealodzy.pl forum hero :)

The profession of Joseph seems very interesting and unusual (for me). My hint (maybe wrong) is to think about (on the right-hand side):
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=635378
Barbara Bantz (according to this link) was Tanzmeisterin in Woiska (this place belonged to the parish Wiśnicze (Wischnitz)). She had a daughter Josepha born 18.3.1780 in Woiska.

When you look at the birth certificate of that girl:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2114433
you will notice that her mother's name was Bankin (in fact Bank - the suffix -in means female). However, the child was born out of wedlock (unlike Carl, son of Joseph).

When you compare with the indices here in Geneteka, you will find that the name of the girl and her mother is Bonk.
https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.ph ... =&to_date=

I'm sorry that this does not prove anything, but the profession is very unusual.

Bonk is a very popular surname in Silesia (also spelled Bąk currently).

When you look again at the marriage certificate of Carl, you will see that the surname may be also Bankc, which is Banck spelled incorrectly.

It would be nice to trace the origin of Barbara Bank - she might be a relative of Joseph.

One more thing: Silesia belonged to Prussia since 1742 after Silesian wars between Prussia and Habsburg empire.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesian_Wars
It belonged to Prussia until 1918 (or 1921) and many places even until 1945.

Mariosoares - oh my gosh you so rock!
Truly, the huge-est hug to you for your research, links and thoughts on this.

My Joseph Banke of Wojska (Abt. 1747 - Bef. 1795 Wojska)

https://www.sushi-rider.com/baingo-sile ... andparents

His Occupation
Tanzmeister (dance master)
I always thought it was so very weird .. a dance meister in a small agricultural village Woiska / Wojska ?

Surname
My search from Erwin Baingo (my grandfather) back has been totally blighted by surname changes throughout the past i.e. Baingo < Banke / Banko

Ban...
Polish diminutive suffix '-ko,' ?
German diminutive suffix '-ke,'?

(From another lovely https://genealodzy.pl/ forum hero in my thread:
Surname change from Banke to Baingo - why?
https://genealodzy.pl/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-115693.phtml)

Surname Change Again - regrading Joseph/ Josef?
Your reply, I think has been a bit of a break through for me!

From your reply
Bantz, Bankin, Bonk via Barbara Bantz who was Tanzmeisterin in Woiska
Barbara Bankin the suffix -in means female).

In view of your comment that Silesia belonged to Prussia since 1742, could have Joseph's surname may have been originally Bonk and he changed it to Bank?

There are so many "Bonk" in this region?
https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.ph ... =&to_date=

I will now sift through.

Barbara Bantz / Bonk
Perhaps I am the worst anecstry seeker ever but I do like the idea that Woiska Tanzmeisterin Barbara Bantz was related and maybe sister / daughter of Joseph Banke Tanzmeister?

Thank you so much. Had my Mummy been alive she would have baked you All the yummiest torte ever :) Mummy so wanted to find out about her Father's ancestry - she always wondered if it was true that there was a village named after my grandfather Erwin Baingo. I have indeed a found a potential village Bangow

https://www.sushi-rider.com/baingo-sile ... gow-Poland

But I think the case was that the family adapted their name from the village!
