I was wondering if the female names Agata and Agnieszka were possibly used interchangeably in the past (1890's)?

I've come across my great grandmother's birth record in Zawadka and her father is listed as Andrej Surdel and his mother is Agata Cyran. Subsequent children of Andrej have birth records listing Agnieszka Cyran as Andrej's mother. Is there any chance Agata and Agnieszka could be the same person?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Undoubtely, the Cyran and Surdel family crest seems is beatifully located in the south-eastern Poland Zawadka Brzostecka https://https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B ... Brzostecka with family parish as Brzostek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzostek - and first names Agnieszka and Agata are different, althought could be same as written, here is an example with Agnieszka from marriage records y 1896 from this parish: https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.ph ... rdertable= - the family names are also interesting - with Polish etymological works the Cyran is very old Polish family name noted from 1616 y derived from the old Polish language and word 'cyranka' means 'wild duck', the second Surdel is also noted with these works and derived from old Polish language and words 'surdać, szurdać" (to sulk) - theses from Latin language and another word 'surdus", interesting family genes in your family blood, greetings Kelly from this PTG forum! :)

Agnieszka i Agata to są różne imiona , ale często były mylone w aktach.
Agnieszka Cyran i Agata Cyran to może być ta sama osoba.

Kelly
This statement is definitely a true.
I've experienced this first hand,
while indexing one parish, from what used to be Galicja.
However these are 2 totally different names.
