Please help me trace my great grandparents

Hi,

I'm trying to trace my great grandparents - Abraham Isaac Bellman and Esther Rosenfeld (Rosen).

The information I have is that Abraham was born in March 1885, in Lodz (maybe Plosk), to Yaakov Meir Bellman and Sister Grinzspan (both born in 1856, possibly in Kutno). I also think Esther was born in March 1886 in Lodz (maybe Plosk).

I know they emigrated with their families to the UK when they were young, but I can't find any records of them arriving. The first records I have of them is on the 1911 UK census where they identified as being from 'Russian Poland'.

We think that "Bellman" might be a simplified name given to them upon arrival in the UK, and so Abraham's surname might be slightly different.

I'm trying to find Abraham and Esther's birth certificates, to confirm our original family name and location. I've searched the databases on this site but haven't found them so far.

Any thoughts or help is massively appreciated!

I have literally no experience in tracing Jewish ancestors, so take everything I write with a grain of salt. However, if I were you, and you were pretty sure they were born in Łódź, you could contact the Archiwum Państwowe w Łodzi and ask for a query. Unfortunately, there are no scans available online...

Dla uzyskania największej pewności (chodzi o potwierdzenie, nie typowanie hipotetycznych) tj "najbardziej prawidłowo" chyba byłoby:

* kwerenda w ewidencji ludności Łodzi:
- księgi ludności stałej,
- księgi ludności niestałej,

* kwerenda w ASC małżeństw (może Łódź na początek),

w okresach, datach sensownych.

Pewnie można usługę zlecić w Archiwum Państwowym w Łodzi.
Ale to nie są wyjątkowo rzadkie nazwisko, niepewność duża. Nie sądzę by udało się ograniczyć niepewność do marginalnej wielkości.

There are a couple of Facebook groups called Tracing the Tribe , also Jewish Genealogy Portal . There is also a website called JRI-POLAND.org which has Jewish birth marriages and death records indexed
