1790s Dance Master of Woiska, Silesia - Joseph Banke

Post autor: Baingo »

Ciao fab genealodzy.pl forum heroes - I'm back again, pleading for help, please :)

I'm still hitting a brick wall everywhere, for:

Joseph Banke (Abt 1747 - Before 1795) of Woiska

https://www.sushi-rider.com/baingo-sile ... andparents

Dance Master - according to his son's marriage certificate he was a Dance Master - which is a very distinctive occupation.

Recently a Polish barrista told me that Dance was an important tradition in Polish history?

Thank you for the help on my previous forum thread - https://genealodzy.pl/PNphpBB2-viewtopi ... dc8b.phtml

Possible leads:
Do you have any suggestions for Woiska / nearby Silesian:
* historical societies
* historical dance societies
* historical local newspaper archives (I have searched https://sbc.org.pl/en/dlibra)
That I should contact?

I would be so over the moon to go back further than Joseph Banke

In the 18th century, Dance Master in Poland was called baletmaister/ balletmaister
https://sxvii.pl/index.php?strona=haslo ... LETMAJSTER#

He worked in the palace, so look for wealthy families who may have employed him.
And a bit of history

Hugest, thank you for your help and links.

Wow my Tanzmeister Joseph Banke may have worked in the palace - if only my Mummy was here to be thrilled by this possibility.

As always, thank you for your kind help. I will chase this avenue of research.

I bet it was Tworóg castle :D
https://zamkiobronne.pl/zamek/tworog/
Only 7 km from the village of Wojska
In the years 1684–1757 the village belonged to the Verdugo family,
in 1758–1807 again to the Colonnas,
and in 1807–1818 to the Gastheimbes

Could this be this family?

Brynek palace? I think it's a bit too far...
and did court counselor Friedrich Hetzko employ a ballet master?

You're welcome :)
I would look for the archives of this family. Maybe in Germany?
