Arthur C. Sokolnicki
SOKOLNICKI Arthur C. Sokolnicki, 93, passed away January 22, 2009 at Riverside Hospital. He was born in Hamtramck, Mich. to
Chester Sokolnicki and Anna Kuberski, October 23, 1915. He grew up and lived most of his life in the Detroit area. He spent 10 years of his life in service to our country in the US Army and was honorably discharged after 2 1/2 years in the combat engineers during WWII. He was called the Bing Crosby of Hamtramck after several on-the-radio sessions, and had a 15-0-1 record as a light heavyweight on the US Army boxing team and pitched and played 1st base for the Ft. Belvior baseball team. He retired a Teamster and moved to Columbus in 2002. The legacy he leaves behind includes the sons he had, Jan of Columbus, Oh., Rex of Oak Island, N.C. and Max of Chesterfield Township, Mich.; and his grandchildren, Corey, Lisa, Erin, Paul, Jonathan, Kevin and Matthew. Arthur's family will be gathering at Jan's home on Saturday, February 14th, 2009, at 830 Gatehouse Lane, in the northwest area of Columbus. The family welcomes any friends to join them at 2 p.m. for a short farewell service.
