Ciao fab genealodzy.pl forum heroes
Please help me
Surname change from Banke to Baingo - why?
First, again thank you
As before truly, thank you SO much for your stellar site & search functionality which has hugely helped me on my www.ancestry.co.uk family tree (I have linked to your results many times). Through your fab site, I have found many descent relatives and also with the help of stellar and really lovely person in the forum (Axee) who helped me.
My Grandfather's surname: Baingo
During lockdown with the help of stellar Axee I traced my Silesian grandfather's ancestry
My Grandfather: Erwin Baingo (1887 Rybna,Tarnowskie Góry, Silesia - 1947, Dresden)

My Silesian ancestor's surname: Banke
I had hit a brickwall until stellar fab Axee, showed me (with stellar investigation) that my grandfather's surname had been changed through his ancestors to Banke.
Every time I meet some one in London who is Polish: I proudly say my grandfather is Polish from Silesia, but when I ask them if they think Baingo is a Polish name they always say they it doesn't sound like it and indeed they say it is a rare surname.

Any ideas why my grandfather's Silesian's family's name was changed from Banke to Baingo?

Is Banke more Polish name?
Is Baingo more Germanic name?
Baingow in Siemianowice Śląskie

The first reference to settlement Bańgów / Baingow dates back to 1596. During the German Empire it was renamed to Baingow.
I have read many Poland history books - e.g. Poland by Adam
Zamoyski (read twice as was so hard!) but i can't suss.
Forgive me for sounding bizarre - it was an intrigue of my mother (who is now in heaven, and I would like to fulfil her intrigue).
Please help me
