Nazwisko: MARCHWICKI

Post autor: Yaakov7 »

I'm looking for relatives in Poland with the surname MARCHWICKI. I have a great grandmother who was born in Poland. I would like to find out her place of birth and have more information about her family. The only information I know about her is that:

* Her name was Marja Marchwicka
* She was born IN Poland between 1884-1885
* She came to Brazil with her family about 1890-1891
* In some documents her father appears as Antoni and in others as Szymon
*Her mother was named Antonia or Antonina
* She married my great grandfather Jan Szczesny in 1903 in Curitiba- Brazil

Unfortunately, in all her papers in Brazil, she only mentioned that she was Polish and nothing else. I am trying to figure out where she was born. I have a big doubt. I've been told that, at that time (1890) Poland was divided in 3 parts. One belonged to Germany, another to Austria and the other one to Russia. For example, my great grandfather Jan Szczesny was born in Kaczanowka - Skalat powiat, Galizia, and he used to declare he was Austrian. So, I do believe my great grandmother Marja Marchwicka was from a place that remained to Poland, even at the time of Russian, Austrian and German occupation. Nowadays, most Marchwicki in Poland live in Lodz, Warsaw, Klobuck and Katowice. Could anyone give me a hint? Which of these cities could be her place of birth?

I hope someone can clear up my thoughts.

Dziekuje bardzo!

Sorry, I missed your name but anyhow regarding a surname in question - I don't think anybody can help you. You have to have some information about your great grandmother ancestral place.
Did you look into or after a travel documents, ship manifests?
Maybe the Hamburg data base?
As for now you can place surname into Surname list, hoping for a little miracle.
There is a small chance that she was born near by Kaczanowka, Skalat powiat. Look into Mormons site. They have for Kaczanowka almost all XIX century on microfilms. Look for neighboring parishes as well. Maps are available.
Good luck

Mr. Kisielewski
I've tried everything I could do to track her roots. In all my ggrandmother's papers made in Brazil as documents or identity card, she only mentioned she was Polish. I also tried to take a look at immigrants lists at Hamburg Port (and also Bremen), but I could not find her family. I never had the chance to see her passport and I do believe no one in our family has ever seen it. I don't believe she was born near Kaczanówka (Skalat powiat - Ternopil), because it was a region under Austrian occupation. Once I've been told that my great grandmother Marja Marchwicka was born in a place under Russian occupation.

I know everything about my great grandfather Jan Szczesny and his family. I have their passport and documents. I had the chance to visit Kaczanówka and other little villages as Stawki, Krasne, Skalat, Tarnoruda, in Ternopil (Ukraine), on May 2007. There, people told that my relatives with surname Szczesny, Kasztelan, Nowak and Michalewski, who lived in Ternopil region were re-located to Poland after 1945.

The main point to me, at the moment, is my great grandmother's family - The MARCHWICKI. As you told me Mr. Kisielewski, I must wish for a miracle. Even though, I will keep trying. Maybe I should write to all " Urząd Stanu Cywilnego" or "Naczelna Dyrekcja Archiwów Państwowych" in Poland. I just fear I have few information about her to request a document.

Thank you so much Mr. Kisielewski for your advice. If you have one more idea, please let me know.

Eduardo, looks like you are very experienced family genealogist.
It is very hard to tell you something what you don't know.
Try to place a queries about your great grandmother on all Polish and English language lists of surnames.
There are several Polish language genealogical portals known to me beside this one:
Genpol http://www.genpol.com/
Przodek http://www.przodek.pl/
Yaki http://www.yakipl.republika.pl/
Portal Genealogii Kresowej http://genealogia.kresowa.info/
Genealogia Polska http://www.genealogiapolska.pl/
Google discussions group http://groups.google.com/group/pl.soc.g ... pics?hl=en
Be aware of a "professionals" who will promise you to find family of your
great grandmother.
Do not contact all USCs in Poland! It will be a waste of your time.

O ktorych Marchwickich chodzi?Jaka to linia?Skad?
Byli też i Marchwiccy herbu wlasnego.

Mr. Kisielewski,
I tried to take a look at these sites you suggested me. They all seem very interesting but I don't speak Polish. I speak English and Russian. I used to know how to speak Polish when I was a child but I totally forgot. I'll try to figure it out.

Marchwiccy

Post autor: Yaakov7 »

Hi, Mr. Kisielewski!

It´s been a long time since I got your last message. I hope your doing fine.
Unfortunately, I got no information so far, about my ancestor Marja Marchwicka. I asked Mr. Wysocki if there´s Polish White Pages on-line, but he did not reply. Could you please tell me if there´s such kind of web site? I do believe it would help me a lot, because I would be able to know in which powiat or gmina the Marchwicki live in Poland, and it could make my reasearch a little bit easier.

Do you know that the Polish Ambassador in Brazil is Jacek Junosza Kisielewski? Is he related to you?

Well, I would appreciate if you could tell me something about the Polish white pages.

Thanks!

Eduardo
