I think "Brak" means that the surname is missing from the certificate. From the Polish word "brak" meaning "missing; lack of".

Well, I am not sure about that. If you look at geneteka (Burzyn, births indexes) you will see surname Kalski (mother surname - Brak). This is the only case of such surname in Burzyn in these indexes. So if Brak is not a surname but it means "missing" why it happens one time only (with big B). Look at marriage index of Franciszek Kalski and Franciszka Brak...?. It means someone could read the beginning of the surname but couldn`t read the end of it. Maybe it`s true what PabianAus wrote but I am not sure. You need to contact with kabe0 who made the indexes and ask about that.
Greetings

I agree with Arek. You need to examine the original record to confirm if it is a real family name or if it means that the family name is missing. I was simply offering another possible explanation that needs to be investigated.

Thanks Arek and Pabian. I will do more checking. I Polish Priest working with me said that Brak is a last name but he is helping me check further because of so many "Brak" last names in the database. When I check Franceska's parents, Ferdinand Brak and Zuzanna Brak shows up......

Thanks very much for the guidance

There some people with the name Brak in Poland.

Are you just looking at the index or you have the scan of the record?
This is the index
1870 11 Franciszek Kalski Franciszka Brak...? Z? Imię ojca: Ferdynand
Imię matki: Zuzanna Burzyn Uwagi: wdowiec po Justynie Miejsce przechowywania ksiąg:
Archiwum Parafialne Indeks dodał kabe0

It looks like the person who indexed had problem with reading the record.
it states that the Franciszka surname either started with Brak.. or was not mentioned but her mothers name started with Z.

I looked at the indexes in Burzyn and some of them are a bit untypical. Eg only grooms or brides parents name wer mentioned. Maybe the books or scans where difficult to read?
I suggest that you contact the person who made the index to understand why.

Thank you. I did find that "Z" was Zuzanna. I also see that when you run Kalska instead of Kalski, I find "Brak", also Brakow and Brakowski, I will make the connect mentioned

Regards and blessings for all the help
