Dear Nika or others who can help,

I am looking for help sifting through this list of confessions from Mejszagola parish from 1862 looking for my ancestors from the Dowiat family whom I am trying to find where they were living in the year 1862. I am trying to determine when or if the family left the parish of Mejszagola.

The list is very long and I understand the difficult nature of looking over such a long list but your help is greatly appreciated.

it is from images 779-807. pages (334-360 on the actual documents)

Thanks for considering lending a hand in this task :-)

Hi Hugh,

Are you looking for specific individuals or anyone named Dowiat?

Regards,

Maja

Dowiats in general but in particular Maryanna Dowiat, Katarzyna Dowiat, Aleksandra Dowiat and the widow Aniela Dowiat.

Thanks,

Hugh

I don't see any Dowiat on this list.

Thank you for looking, This seems to make sense. the family moved here after sometime between 1829 and 31 from Zejmy parish near Kowno and with the death of the father Bartlomiej in June of 1839 it seems to make sense that perhaps the family moved back to the Zejmy area or perhaps Aniela (Romanowska) Dowiatowa as a widow remarried and settled elsewhere.
Her surving daughters could have been married, and settled in the home parish of their husbands (Much like my direct ancestor Julianna Dowiat who was a resident of Mejszagola parish in 1859, when she married Konstanty Szymkiewicz from the neighboring Szyrwinty parish.)

I guess the best thing to do is look for Dowiats that were married or died in the parish before 1862, and to check the surrounding parish metric books for the widow and her daughters.

Małgorzata,

I recall seeing this page quite some time back, but at the time didn't have the evidence to know if it had anything to do with my line. Even at this point it is still up in the air although the Marryanna that had children by Barnaba Mieczkowski could be in fact the eldest Dowiat sister Maryanna who was born in 1822. I guess I shall have to look at the Mejszagola marriages from 1840-1844 to see if I can find it.

As to the ancestral home of my Dowiat family, I have yet to pinpoint it. Maybe in the area around Kowno or perhaps closer to Wilno of Troki?

Research will tell.

Sincerely,

Hugh

Małgorzata, Nika,

Well after looking at the Mejszagola births linked to by Malgorzata earlier in this threads I believe this Maryanna Dowiat definitely one of the sisters. The fact that the village of Zablocie is the birth village of the fist son Stanislaw in 1844 and also the village of residence mentioned in my direct ancestor Julianna Dowiat's 1859 marriage record seems to confirm this (in my eyes).

So Maryanna who was born in December 1822 must have married Barnaba Mieczkowski, sometime before 1844 as Stanislaw is legitimate. However I have looked at the Mejszagola marriages on the LDS microfilms the years 1841-1844 have no marriage of Barnaba and Maryanna (I plan on checking for other siblings born before 1843). What is frustrating is the lds films have marriages for 1840 missing so I can't check that year.

Now here's where the help of the knowledgeable Genealodzy community can be of enormous help. I have found on the genealogia.lt website a list of Mejszagola parishioners from sometime in 1840. I have already found the widow Anielia Dowiat and her children as being part of the same household in Zascianek Pojodzie.

I just recenty found what I believe is Barnaba's family on the same two pages for Pojodzie (males are of pg 25 of 74, females pg 26 of 74) Baranba is entry #537 on pg 25.

http://genealogia.lt/pdfs/Spis%20parafi ... 40%20r.pdf

So this seems to confirm the theory of Małgorzata. Now my question is for those who can help, can someone look at the previously posted 1862 parish confession list and see if they can find Barnaba and Maryanna Mieczkowski's household and perhaps the widow mother or other members of the Dowiat family will be listed also.

I am willing to bet that Barnaba and Maryanna's marriage is listed in the missing 1840 year, and she was married in Mejszagola.

Thank You so much,

Hugh

Hello,

I looked through your list and found 3 women named Mieczkowska in okolica Żelańce close to Pojodzie.
http://www.kami.net.pl/kresy/
Julia Mieczkowska aged 27 in house 194 of Konstanty Denisewicz, living with his wife and 2 daughters and 4 other persons.
Zofia Mieczkowska aged 26 and Rozalia Mieczkowska aged 25 in house 195 of Józef Danowski, living with his wife, 3 persons by the name Pietrusewicz and 3 other persons.

It may be that the parents died and children were sent to live with cousins. They could be from a different family.

Nika,

Thank you for the thorough examination of the list from 1862, Now I guess the next step is to look through the Mejszagola death lists for the period up to 1862 and perhaps beyond for Mieczkowski's.

It is a long thorough process but I enjoy the thrill of the chase :-)
