Here is another set of indexes covering the years 1886-1894 looking for Szymkiewicz children, specifically children of Adolf and Jozefa (Fronckiewicz) Szymkiewicz. These are for the villages of Mejszagola and Kernave.

Hugh, dont't you think it would be much easier if you write proper link to letter SZ (Ш)?
Szymkiewicz = Шымкевич

You are correct this was a lazy oversight on my part, and it would save the folks here a lot of grief in having to click through pages. I will have to do this in future inquiries.

My recognition of Russian cursive is so bad that this help has to be requested. I am working on my Russian handwriting but still am way off.

Russian alphabet is my nightmare too, but I learned to recognize "my" surnames.
Try to look for image Шымкевич. Not letters but the picture.
It will help

thanks one thing I noticed about the surname Szymkiewicz is there is no tail on any on the letters that hang down like a "y" of "g" in the latin alphabet.

We'll see what happens when I skim through.

You have proven yet again how indispensable you truly are! That would seem to fill in some of the holes. No Zofia though?? Perhaps Tekla was a Zofia as she is close to the age on census records.

Now I will just get the full translation and see what it show for the village they were born in.

It makes sense Zofia was born in 1887 (making her 2nd oldest) as on the American censuses she is listed as the eldest daughter still living with her parents. The ages weren't exact on the US Census (It had Zofia born in 1890 and Stanislaw born in 1892).

It seems likely that Tekla died very young, as she never moved to America with her family. Adolf came to US in 1906 and Jozefa and the children: Stanislaw, Bronislaw, Marianna and Julia in 1908.

Zofia came with an uncle in a date I don't recall (have to find document). So Tekla most likely died in one of three parishes (Mejszagola, Kozakiszki, or Nowe Troki)

Thanks again with this the children of Adolf and Jozefa seems complete.

Malgorzata and my other Polish origins friends,

As I have said in the previous post this seems to prove that with all the records that Adolf and Jozefa Szymkiewicz had 7 children all of which have been found their birth certificates.

However the 1910 US census mentions that Jozefa was mother of 8 children and at the time in 1910 6 were alive. Tekla who was born in 1893 is one of them, however that means one remains who born and died before the 1910 census.

It is possible that the 8th was born in America and died here very young and would to have been born after Jozefa's 27 Feb 1908 arrival in USA. I am thinking it more probable that the 8th child was in the Wilno area.

The only gaps between births that another child could be born are probably 1886, 1888, 1891-1892, 1894, 1896-97, 1899-91 and 1902-1907.

I have already posted the Mejszagola registers for the period 1886-1894, and previous researchers have checked:

Nowe Troki: 1887-1903
Jewie: 1887-1903
Kozakiszki: 1887-1904

So I am asking anyone who can help to skan the birth indexes for these few years for the missing 8th Szymkiewicz child.

The other birth could have been in Mejszagola or somewhere else but the family listed as living in Jewie when they immigrated.

That Malgorzata, officially takes care of the Szymkiewicz family, well at least Adolf and his children. I think over the next few days I will check to find Tekla and Michalina's death records as I am certain they passed before 1908 they will most certainly be in the villages already searched.
