Otrzymałem odpowiedź z Centralnego Archiwum Białorusi, że nie mają żadnych dokumentów z wioski dziadka. Urodził się w wioske Zasiele, gmina Zahustyn/Zahutyń, powiat Klimowicze, woj. (raczej) Mścisławskie.

Studiował w Mścisławskiej Szkołe religijnej, którą skończył w roku 1910, a następnie w seminarium Mohylewskim. Jakiego rodzaju rekordów powinienem szukać w tych miejscach, jeśli są one dostępne?

Mam też dostęp do Biblioteki Publicznej w New York. Które z następujących książek mogą być najbardziej przydatne:

1.Urzędnicy Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego : spisy / pod redakcją Andrzeja Rachuby ; opracowali Henryk Lulewicz, Andrzej Rachuba, Pracemysław P. Romaniuk.
2. Metryka litewska : rejestry podymnego Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego : województwo mścisławskie 1667 r.
3. Metryka Litewska. Księga Sigillat 1709-1719

Tatiana, what denomination was your gramp? Like I wrote you in another thread, you need to locate the proper church books. Perhaps we can help you here, but we need to know the denomination, because this village might have belonged to different parishes depending on the denomination. No wonder they answered they had nothing on Zasiele in Minsk. But they hold the church registers. Once you know the parish you can ask for search in the their church registers.

The first book from your index is an index of known officials of the Mscisław voivodship. The second is a tax registry. The third is a collection of documents issued by the state. All will be rather of little help, unless your gramp descended from an important family. There is a chance the surname appears in the tax registry if they were noble, though.

My grandfather was of Orthodox faith. The Archive informed me that all records from the village perished. I am sure they mean church baptism records. I wonder where should I look for census records for this area?

If they don't have these church registers in Minsk, with luck they might have gotten to StPetersburg. Browse these resources:

Another chance is the church in Zasiele might have been only a chapel of ease, and they did not keep their own books. This seems to have been a small community (only 48 households). In such a case suitable entries were made in the parish registers. Then you need to locate the proper parish and ask again in Minsk. Here is an index of the orthodox church registers from Klimowicze uyezd (county) they hold in Minsk:

Alas, I'm not knowledgeable about the territorial organization and structure of the Orthodox Church. Maybe there is some one else here who can help, or try to post this question on a Russian genealogy forum.
