Hello,
I'm noticing the surnames Symolon and Szymaniak are used interchangably and am wondering why. I think the surname Symeoniak may also be used. I've googled and looked on Ancestry.com message boards but can't find an explanation. If anyone could offer one, and tell be which I should use predominantly, I'd be very appreciative.
Many thanks,
Carolyn

They can be used interchangeably because
1. Szymon and Symeon come from one given name: Symeon (hebr. Shime'-n) and Szymon (hebr. Shim'-n), Latin Simeonus, Simonis, Symeon
2. Symeon-iak, Szyman-iak can be patronymic surnames
3. Symołoń/Symołon - I m not sure but maybe it means "this child belongs to Szymon"
