Hello! I would like to obtain a birth certificate from Poland for my great great grandfather. Where can I get that?
I know his name, birth date, province and governate (suwałki kowieńska) ,and religion roman-catholic. Would this info be enough for a birth certificate?
Thank you

"Where can I get that?"
"Would this info be enough for a birth certificate?"
It depends on birth date. What is source of these informations (date, place)?

The birth date is 29/6 1859
The source of this information is a church in Finland that I wrote to, they found the information in a parish book. They had no more information.

Thank you. I will take a look.
Is it sorted by date?
Do I look for the surname on the side of the pages?

Ok. I could not find him there . Maybe he was not born there, I only know that he was written in a roman catholic church in suwalki kowienśka in Poland.
Is there some authority that I can write to, and they can find his birth certificate ?

You could possibly receive more help from the list had the surname of your ancestor been not secret.
Best,

I highly recomend to serch in more than 1859.
In 1858 there is someone called Aleksander Walter

Or it could be spelled different in polish maybe Piotr

Piotr Paweł indeed.
I do not see him in this parish. Checked from 1856 to 1863.

Hmm, ok. Thank you all for the help looking.
Maybe he was not born in suwalki, maybe he came to the church in suwalki kowienśka later in life.
In the foreigner parish book in Finland it says:
"He died 1.3.1909 registered in Kowienśka roman-catholic church (Suwalki government) , Peter Valter, Polish.
He died and he is buried in Finland.

No.
I know he married Anna Maria Teräwäinen, they had 2 sons Wilhelm and Leon (Leon was born in Raseiniai/kaunas in litwa, so they probably lived there for a while) and maybe a daughter or sister to Peter - Antonina.
The family fled to Finland in 1903 and started a barber shop, Peter and the sons. I dont know why they fled.
Some rumours in the family said they think Peter was an army officer maybe in german /prussian army .

It`s a pity

, because surname Walter exists also in protestants metrics (Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession).

I didn`t found Peter Paul
Marriage with Anna (she was from Finland - Grand Duchy of Finland, part of russian empire) could suggest that he was officer in russian army (like Carl Gustaw von Manerhaiem)
